Using time management within a complete stress management system can really make you stand out at work. The type of leadership that is being looked for today is the type of leadership that prevents problems. Using time management to prevent workplace anxiety instead of just reacting to it keeps the workplace running smoothly. You can learn a new way to manage your time and your tasks, to prevent stress. And when you prevent stress, you are spending more time finding the opportunities in stressful situations.
Here are 5 ways to use time management to turn stress into opportunities.
Recognize that time management is really self-discipline. Time flows forward, no matter what you do. Time management is really disciplining yourself to stay on task and to be able to resist interruptions and temptations. Embrace the Pareto Principle. This principle says that 80% of your results will come from 20% of your efforts (or time or customers or any number of variations). So constantly review your work, to focus on the 20% that gives you the 80%. Use the SMART method of goal setting: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Tangible. This keeps your efforts focused. Use the TF30 method to prioritize your schedule. Tasks that must be done Today, tasks that must be done by Friday, and tasks that must be done within the next 30 days. This method will easily allow you to reject distractions that are less important than whatever you are working on. Delegate properly. Pick the proper person, and explain clearly what is to be done. Set a date certain to be completed, and set periodic review dates to monitor the progress.
If you don’t use aggressive time management, your being passed over for promotions and raises will get worse. Without a time management system that removes stress, your time will continue to be chewed up by fighting stress. This means that the bad health effects of stress will be magnified by the bad emotional effects of stress. You think it will be painful to change your time management system. It will be much more painful not to.
You have seen how time management is an integral part of a comprehensive stress management system. But many times, your time management system becomes a source of stress instead of part of what to do to relieve stress. This is because most time management systems do not allow you enough time to handle your tasks and any interruptions. That’s like planning to travel by plane in winter, but not considering that flights might be delayed from snow or ice. Using a comprehensive stress management system which includes time management throughout will eliminate missing promotions and give you more recognition at work.

I’m sure people would save a lot of time by simply going through the whole week every Sunday. Spend one hour in the end of the week and think through what he spent his time on and what he can do better next week.

Not only can time management eliminate stress, I find that I also get much more done and feel much more in control. You’re absolutely right about it really being self-discipline, which is often not easy for some. I had to work at it for some time, but it eventually became much easier and much more of a habit.

Time management refers to a range of skills, tools, and techniques used to manage time when accomplishing specific tasks, projects and goals. It reduce stress also.thanks.
You don’t say how old your children are or whether your husband is supportive of your going to school and working part-time. So… delegate. If old enough, your kids can do their own laundry, start dinner, set the table, do the dishes, keep you informed of their activities on a big calendar and help around the house and yard.
We always try to do too much. Yet, it seems that we have to do it all. One good way of managing your time will be to write down with times and everything (its kinda like a time table) of what you plan to do in a week (by everything, I mean EVERYTHING jot down how much time you plan to sleep, cook, eat, etc) it is amazing how much time you can squeeze out of the day when you know exactly what you need to get done and how much time can you give that task. It worked for me, hopefully it helps you too!

For me time management is more about goals. There are those things that have to be done every day without a doubt, then there are those things that you would like to get done. I break my day down into thirty minute intervals.

Look at your day as a plate and make a space for each thing that you need to do. That way you can visualize how much time you can realistically spend on each. Make sure that there is a place for “your time” so you don’t get so burnt out. Just realize that you cant do it all.
Totally agree, when your time is not managed properly there could be 1001 reasons to have stress, when every single thing you do is managed in time, it reduces stress because you are more organized.
There are two things that could be done right away. The first option is the most obvious, simply avoid the things you suspect of causing trouble. The second option is better if you are unsure of what is causing your reactions.
Everyday write what you eat, where you go and what products you use. Along with the what and the where, you must also come u with a system to gauge your symptoms.

Great article this is some great information that you provide here. I especially like the idea that time management is really self-discipline. I completely agree, the reason that people are constantly stressed out is because they don’t have the self-discipline to properly manage their time in order to get things done in a proper amount of time, therefor making them feel stressed.

Turning off applications does seem to be a chore. While some have a menu option to do so, others just keep running. I’ll have to find that app you were referring to that helps shut apps down.

Great post. In my humble opinion the point of time management as an exercise in self discipline is very accurate. It has got a lot to do with “pulling yourself up by the hair”. But that is also a matter of practice. Once you gain self-discipline things will begin to flow for you.
“Experiences aren’t realization in themselves; but when we remain free of charge of attachment to them, they turn out to be what they really are—that is, components for realization.”
one of the best things to incorporate with Stress Management is meditation and deep breating exercises.:’;
My family situation growing up was extremely stressful and painful. Going through high school was no better, as I was insecure and had a few friendships which were nothing but stress…
Very nice post, you are very right…being a good time manager means owning your life, because time is so important; next to the Pareto principle i think it’s good to put every night on paper all the thing we have to do for the next day…this way we could allow the subconscious to come up with the best solutions for the next day and it will be much easier to realise all those things with a little help and also to discipline ourself not to delay things anymore, be very active people…
Will give it a shot!
Time management is a very important part of everybody’s live even if he/she a working /student or housewife. Deep breathing and pranayams are very good techniques to solve the stress.
